- Doubles Final, E Gulbis of Latvia and D Tursunov of Russia defeated a Fisher of Australia and J Kerr also of Australia 64 36 11-9.
Robby Ginepri managed to return to the winner's circle in the same location as his last triumph over the ATP World Tour, allowing him to claim a third title by defeated the No. 3 seed who is Sam Querrey with 6 - 2, 6 - 4 in a purely American final at the recent Indianapolis Championship Tennis, which were presented by Lilly.
Ginepri managed to collect a $80,000 purse as well as 250 2009 ATP South African Airways points when he claimed this victory at the Indianapolis Tennis Championships. He also managed to use this win to assume the lead in the recent Olympus United States Open Bonus Series Challenge standings following his first week in the North American hard court summer circuit.
He managed to break the big serving Sam Querrey twice just during the opening set and then was given a great chance to serve the match out when Sam Querrey managed to double fault on the break point in the second set's ninth game. Ginepri managed to deliver on the triple match point which is when the overhead return on Querrey's behalf happened to sail long.
Ginepri, who is 26 years old, was finally making his first tour level final appearance since he won the Indianapolis title back in 2005 by defeated Dent. This is Querrey's second successive appearance in a final after finishing as the runner up to Rajeev Ram in a tournament in Newport just two weeks prior.
Coupled with the final in Newport, this first all-American player championship since the New Haven match in August of 2007 marked the first occasion since the year 2003 on the World ATP Tour that an all American final existed in consecutive United States tournaments.
Now Ginepri is 3 and 0 in the ATP World Tour finals, after having won the grass court tennis title back in 2003 at Newport by defeating Melzer. He is a former World No. 15 and he entered this week at No. 95, but now is he expected to come up by as many as 40 spots by winning this title.
He is a resident of Georgia and was slowed down early in the year after having appendix surgery and a nine day stay in the hospital. He finally returned to the circuit back in may, and he has only managed to win four out of his seventeen matches before he came to Indianapolis.
