Benneteau and Tsonga Team Capture First Ever Title Together

BenneteauPartners Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and AngleJulien Benneteau are only playing together for the third time during this week and they have managed to capture their first title together. This French pair has captured their first title with the ATP World Tour after claiming a 6 - 2 and 6 - 4 victory over the Polish duo of Marcin Matkowski and Mariusz Fyrstenberg during the final on Sunday for the Shanghai ATP Masters 1000, which was presented by Rolex.

After claiming a victory during the penultimate Masters 1000 tournament for the ATP World Tour season, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and AngleJulien Benneteau were awarded 1000 ranking points for the ATP World Tour, as well as $252,250 in prize monies.

This is just their third game together, and yet Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and AngleJulien Benneteau have managed to go on a true killing run through to get the title in Shanghai, having accounted for a number of seeds including Daniel Nestor and partner Nenad Zimonjic during the second round, and then Mahesh Bhupathi and partner Mark Knowles during the semi final round of the tournament.

This team, which has only dropped a single set all throughout the week, managed to produce another really polished display during the finals in order to defeat their opponents, which were the sixth seeds. The Frenchmen only managed to lose 10 points throughout on serve, and they also managed to save the one single break point that they faced. They managed to create seven different opportunities to break the serves of their opponents, and they were also able to capitalize on a total of three of their own break point chances in this match, which lasted a grand total of 63 minutes in length.

Benneteau said that this was a good tournament for them to win, and it was a really good feeling to have won such a large tournament. This was the first Masters 1000 title with the ATP World Tour that either of the players had won, let alone together. Both teammates managed to play very well during the tournament, and it showed when they took the championship won.

Benneteau is 27 years old, and this was his fourth doubles title with the ATP World Tour, as well as his first title since his last triumph which was in Last Vegas in March of 2008. Tsonga is 24 years old, and he has managed to maintain a perfect record playing in doubles finals with the ATP World Tour as he has just now won his fourth title on the tour. This was the first Masters 1000 trophy for the ATP World Tour for both players who had previously only finished as runners up with separate partners in the past.
