Amazing racket!!

To kick this review off, I'm at the high end of the intermediate recreational level. I spin it a lot when the game is slow (not with 'pushes'), but when my opponent loops stuff over, I like to slam. I slam a lot and my defense against slams is particularly good.
In the past I've used this basic type of racket before, but for the past year I've been playing recreationally with the cheap $4 Sportcraft paddles. A week ago, I did some research on the internet on the different types of Butterfly paddles. This Carlos Chiu one seemed the most powerful of the bunch.
This racket is much heavier than those cheap Sportcraft paddles, the rubber is much firmer and much thicker. It also does not change shape after slams or after defending against slams, like with my Sportcraft one.
The amount of control and spin on this racket are amazing. I can spin and still have enough control to send it pretty quickly within 1 cm of the top of the net. Furthermore, I can slam at the ball successfully at much lower 'heights' than with all my previous paddles. At my end of the table, at a 9" height, I can slam it to the other side with much less problem.
I highly recommend this paddle. (I got it off of this Amazon website for $39, which already included shipping costs. Don't get it off EBay, it'll rip you off.) |
An allround racket with good control and speed

Table tennis has never been so fun before. I was surprise when I receive this racket. With this racket I am able to serve some most spiny curve balls I have ever served thanks to the good quality of the rubbers. And the best part about this racket is that it gives me both speed and control. I strongly recommend it for people who just want to get a decent racket for a reasonable price.
One thing few people might not like about it is the weight. It is slightly heavier than some other cheap rackets, and one might need some time to get used to it. However, it gives me a much better speed when I am hitting the ball with it due to the momentum. Also the weight problem is easy to overcome after a week or so of practice and playing.
Some people said that this racket is an offensive racket, but I would say it is more an allround racket. And after I lets my friends at the table tennis club give it a few try, they agreed as well. Thanks to the stickiness of the rubber, I am able to do some wicked defensive strokes, like slice (it is hard for the opponent to attack due to the backspin on the ball), and I have no problem using this racket to block smashes so far. As for the offensive strokes, I am able to use it to put incredible amount of topspin on the ball...trust me, it is so much fun!!! Indeed, it is faster than those cheap rackets, but again you will get used to it after a week or so. It doesn't take long to get used to the speed and control of the racket... You won't look at table tennis the same way after you get used to it.
If I have to say one thing I don't like about this product is that it doesn't come with a carry case. So I have to spend $10+ more on it. I would recommend people who is buying this racket to get a carrying case to protect the racket when you are not playing it. $10 would be worth it as you can use your rackets for a longer time if you protect them well.
Overall, this allround racket has good feel with good speed and control. I love it, and I hope you will too.
P.S.
If you take good care of a racket, it should be able to serve you for years. So don't forget to clean the rubbers from time to time...and never, I mean NEVER throw your racket on the table/floor. |
Heavy Top Spin for Aggressive Players

Of all the paddles I have played with this one has noticeable better/heavier top spin. For that reason it is worth the money if you are an aggressive player.
I recently upgraded from a Butterfly Seemiller and have been hitting 2-3 more smash winners per game than I did before as a result of hitting the ball faster with slightly better contol.
The only drawback I found is that I struggle with it when I am on defense. I find that on the points that I can't be the aggressor I lose about 75% of the time, but this may be a weakness of mine, not the paddle.
If you are aggressive and good at getting/staying on offence I highly recommend this racket. |

| The Chiu racket is a very nice racket. The explosion the ball gets off the rubber is amazing. The ball also gets great spin of the tacky rubber and makes your game that much better. Great buy and not as expensive as some rackets. |
Excellent racket for casual play

| If you like spin with decent amount of speed, this is it. My game has certainly improved with it. It is actually fairly lightweight as well. A little overpriced though considering that it doesnt come with a case. |
paddles make a difference

| Originally, I wanted to buy the Butterfly Firehand mostly because of the name, but for half the price I opted for the Carlos Chiu. Not a bad decision. I have not had a single slam returned back to me with this paddle. It took a few days to get used and was leagues better over the sportscraft paddles I originally used. The sticky pad has excellent spin and power. Lacks a little in control but you just need to compensate for that with extra vigilance. Highly recommended for those who want to up their pace a little. |
Good feel and Spin

| I have used only cheap sportcraft paddles before purchasing this Butterfly. I can say that the spins are very satisfying as stated by most reviewers. Also, this paddle is very soft for power, which makes it harder to defend with. The rubber is more of a gel that is delicate. Paddle is heavier than most, but hasn't been a problem. |

| I ordered my paddle on a Tuesday and received it the following Monday with free shipping. This is a very good paddle for the price. The best of its brand and on amazon its only $44. Every where else it is 49.99 or 59.99. Overall its a great buy but make sure you get it on amazon because its the cheapest place on the internet. |
Excellent purchase..

The racket description says Speed: 100 Spin: 100 and Control: 95. And this is exactly how I found this racket. It is blitzkrieg fast and spin is also excellent. I had to get a hang of the bat because I found it a bit top heavy ; But it has turned out to be excellent for my mode of play which is primarily offensive. I recommend buying it with a racket case since the rubber seems pretty fragile. I also put the white tape around it to prevent the rubber peeling off.
Overall an excellent product. Kudos to amazon and fellow reviewers!! |
Very good ping pong paddle

I bought this paddle to replace a Stiga that I'd been playing with. I've found the Carlos Chiu to have a very high spin capacity, living up to why I bought it. I played 19 games straight with it and was consistently pleased with the spin it put on the ball. On more than one occasion my opponent swung and completely missed the ball due to the spin.
The only real negative I've found with it is that it is heavier than my previous paddles. |
Amazing - But Be Warned

Originally i wrote a review basically hating the racket. Truth be known i did. But after playing a while with the "Derek May" model i picked this one up and had discovered that during my time on the other model my style had become far more aggressive and less defensive. A direct turn about from hating the racket to loving it. True this bat will not suit a beginner or someone who relies on defensive play to win points. But if your game is all power then this is a good racket. The lack of control means you really need to have a decently developed style and understanding of what the ball is going to do and how to handle that. If not dont get this bat it will be pure frustration. That said with minimal effort you can produce some pretty ripping shots.
Would i buy this again? Yes and No. Yes because i like the racket and it now suits the way i have started to play. No because my next racket is probably going to be a custom made one to completely suit my style.

I love this racket. More spin and pace than I realized a racket could generate. The only down side to this racket is that the edges of the rubber chip, fray, and fall off.
One year later, I am still loving the Carlos Chiu racket. I am one of those players who can pretty much beat all my friends, but does not have a recreational league to play in. Even still this racket has brought my game up several levels. The spin, speed and control are still incredible. I usually clean the paddle about once a week with a sponge and water. It has lost some of its tackiness but still grips the ball like nothing I have played with before. The paddles edges are still frayed and chipped, but it does not seem to have gotten too much worse over the last year. |
very nice

I went from a cheap paddle to this and I did not expect to feel this much different.
I play quite a bit of ping pong, and I'm not too bad. I would not say I am good compared to many of the tournament players, etc, but I usually will beat the people around me and can compete in the ping pong tournaments. I think the next tournament I go to, I will have more of advantage since I have this new paddle.
The spin and power generated from this paddles is a little tough to get used to right at first, but once I got used to it, I couldn't imagine going back.
I did a lot of research on which paddle to get, and I think I got a really good price to quality ratio and to get a paddle that is too much better you would have to not get a prebuilt paddle. |
Great Step Up

I have been using this bat for a couple of months now and I can tell that my game has improved. I bought this bat for two of my friends as well as myself for Christmas and all three of us are still in awe on how our game has improved. All three of us were using cheap rackets that generated little spin. When we started using this racket, none of us could control the ball because of the spin, but these bats have forced us to learn.
I recommend this bat for anybody looking to improve from the beginner level. |

| Stepped up to this paddle from the higher end Stiga's and couldn't believe the difference. The spin is awesome and after playing with it for a week or so the control was great as well. Don't buy this paddle if you don't have the intention of correcting flaws in your game. |
Love the Product.. Really good..

Butterfly Carlos Chiu is an excellent racket. I brought it a year back now and I love it. Its excellent for spining and has lot of control. It however, lacks some power. Good bang for the buck..

Amazing tournament paddle

I, like many others, started out using an Academy sportscraft racket. It was great for a beginner. As I became a better player I looked into some Stiga rackets and realized that they were not for my style of play. They were more for a defensive player with the foam being extra thick as to absorb any offensive hits. Well after a while I looked into getting a more offensive paddle. When I saw the ratings on the Chiu paddle I figured that I would give it a shot. I was no longer playing table tennis at just a recreational level. Tournaments that I was playing in at this time were giving cash prizes of $1500 or more, with also an entry fee of $150. So I figured I needed a paddle to match my style of play. With this paddle being at the top of most tournament style paddles, before you get to the crazy expensive professional paddles, I bought it. I never figured how quickly my playing could increase. This spin is practicly unreal. The speed, because of how much thiner it is than most other tournament style paddles, is amazing. I could place this ball anywere I wanted to. If you have a good knowlege of how the game works with placement, english, control, and speed then it also is very easy to pick up and learn this paddle's strengths and weaknesses. I now have been using this paddle for over 2 years now and could not be happier. I know that this paddle is at first very sticky and will pick up anything around it (meaning like dust), so the first thing I did was buy a case and some cleaner for it. It cost a few extra dollars but it will keep you from having to buy a new one for a long time. Also I do have just a couple of nicks on the edges because of natural game play, but people who buy this paddle are most of the time at a tournament level and know that hitting the table is bad and should really try to stay away from doing that. Obviously it will happen as we all know that these games get really intense.
To some it all up, this has been the best paddle that I have ever used and I don't know how I could use anything else unless i was willing to pay a fortune on a professional paddle. |
Butterfly Carlos Chiu Table Tennis Racket

This was a present for my son and he has not used it yet.
The feel of the racket's rubber surface was a very sticky
surface which should be wonderful with spin and control
when playing table tennis. I believe he will be very satisfied
and I may purchase one. |
