Novak Djokovic just recently arrived in Shanghai during this past Monday only hours away from taking a weekend title while playing in Beijing and then heading along for a return back to third in the world's rankings, unfortunately at the expense of the injured Scot star, Andy Murray.
Novak Djokovic, a Serbian tennis player, has definitely been in fast forward mode in Asia after he managed to win the China Open in the very same venue that he managed to lift an Olympic bronze during the 2008 games. The new Masters 1000 tournament being held this week at the Qi Zhong is also going to be a truly happy hunting ground for the Serb, who was a 2008 champion at the Australian Open, and who won the most recent Masters Cup here back in November of 2008.
According to calculations by the ATP, Novak Djokovic is going to be taking over for murray as the World. No 3, meaning that he will be in the top three in the world's tennis ranking by Monday.
But Novak Djokovic has not really enough time to stop and reflect on his wins, even after winning a bye for the first round of the Shanghai tournament.
Novak Djokovic says that he is feeling very confident now that he is playing on Asian soil, as he has had a great amount of success playing here in the past three years. He is the second seed in the tournament this year, just behind Nadal. He says that Shanghai, last year, was a great achievement for him. Now coming to visit Shanghai following a big win in Beijing is giving him a great deal of motivation to win.
He says that right now he is simply trying to recover before this big upcoming match, and then he is going to just start all over again. He mentioned not having much time to celebrate at all, but didn't seem bothered by it. Novak Djokovic is joining the top eight tournament seeds, each which has a bye, as they move into the second round. Here he will be able to meet the winner between an important match, a head to head between Fabio Forgnini from Italy and his childhood friend, Latvian Ernests Gulbis.
Roger Federer is currently home resting as well as enjoying newborn twins following a season where he managed to reach to all four of the grand slam final tournaments. Andy Murray is currently still in London where he is nursing an injury to his wrist. He hopes to have it sorted out with enough time remaining that he can play in Valencia in three weeks.
