The epic Wimbledon final that happened last Sunday between Roger Federer and Andy Roddick has been ruled as the most viewed of all men's finals at the All England Club in the past ten years.
According to NBC last Thursday, an average of 5.71 million people had tuned in, in order to watch the epic battle between Roger Federer and Andy Roddick which resulted in Roger Federer walking away with a record setting title, having taken his 15th Grand Slam title in a row. This is the highest number that has been achieved since Pete Sampras went head to head against Andrew Agassi and won in the 1999 final, which managed to attract 5.85 million viewers during that epic showdown.
The 3.8 rating and the 10 share received by the epic Roger Federer and Andy Roddick showdown was the best that a men's final has received since Sampras went head to head against Patrick Rafter in the year 2000, and it also managed to surpass the classic battle between Roger Referer and Rafael Nadal last year by a total of 9 percent.
The epic showdown that transpired between Roger Federer and Andy Roddick this past weekend ended with a 5 - 7, 7 - 6 (6), 7 - 6 (5), 3 - 6, 16 -14 match that lasted for a stunning 4 hours and 16 minutes. The last set in the match, the fifth and final set, lasted longer than any other set in major final history for tennis.
Andy Roddick was slated to attend the Davis Cup World Group quarterfinals, which is slated to begin on this upcoming Friday, but along with Rafael Nadal he will be forced not to attend because he does not have enough turn around time between last weekend's epic showdown and this upcoming week's tournament. His body simply will not be up to the rigors of this new tournament, meaning that he will have to sit this one out and do a little resting in the meantime.
Recently, Roddick has said that he sustained a hip injury during his defeat at the recent Wimbledon final. He had to pull himself out of the Porec clash that is slated to begin on Friday so that he has a chance to heal his body before the injury is allowed to become exacerbated. With Roddick out of the match, it is anyone's guess what the results are going to be like at the end of this one.
Rafael Nadal is sitting this one out as a result of an injury. His knees are currently ailing him, so he is going to be unable to turn out for the champions Spain against Germany to be held in Marbella. He just recently lost his French Open title and Wimbledon title to the World No. 1 Roger Federer, so he is probably better suited for some resting time anyway.
