Here are some helpful tennis tips that will give you some perspective on improving your serve. Remember that different tennis tips are going to help different players in unique ways. The true key is going to lie in your ability to try out different tips and techniques until you find the ones that are going to drive the results that you are looking for.
Avoid carving your serves.
Stop action pictures of serves that were hard hit can show clearly that right after the ball contact, the racket's left edge is closer to the net than the right edge of the racket. What happens here is that the hitting forearm has a knack for turning inward or counter clockwise for just a moment as the racket is being swung forward in the direction of the net. Experts in the body mechanics field of science are telling us that the arm assumes a specific position of comfort in order to avoid putting any undue strain on the fragile elbows.
This inward turning of your arm is so brief that it is barely perceptible. The right edge of your racket will quickly resume its lead just as the stroke is completed. You need to make a conscious effort NOT to think about turning your forearm in an inward direction when you serve hard. This is a natural movement that is going to happen whether you like it or not. The worst possible thing that you could do is to fight it by trying to curve your racket face in the opposite direction, which is only going to carve the ball instead.
You should stand near to the center mark when you are serving.
When you are serving from the right side when playing in singles, you should stand just to the right of the mark in the center. This is going to enable you to serve to the backhand of the receiver more easily, so that your serve will pass over the net's lowest part on the way to the backhand side of the receiver. This is also going to make it possible for you to play many more of his returns using your strong forehand.
In the left court you should be standing approximately six feet to the left side of the center mark. In this place, as well, you will be able to serve easily to the backhand of the receiver, and you will be able to take most returns back as well, running around your backhand and then playing the ball using your strong forehand. This works for all situations except for when the receiver returns the bar sharply angled to your left side, so mind this when it comes to responding to the receiver's returns.
