French Open: Tennis Tournament Recap

The French Open tennis tournament is billed to be the most challenging out of all of the grand slam tournaments, and the 2009 French Open Tournament is slated to adhere to the same rigorous competitive nature of all of the French Open tournaments that preceded it. The 2009 French Open tennis tournament is already adhering to the same robust competitiveness and rigours that are typical of these majors tournaments. The 2009 French Open kicked off on May 24th and is slated to continue until June 7th of this year, and is being hosted by one of the most romantic cities in the entire world, Paris France. This year's tournament is purported to be unleashing some of the most riveting tennis that the sport has ever seen.

Although the 2009 French Open has already begun, it is not too late for you to reserve seats if you are serious about attending. Thousands more people are still expected to arrive throughout the stunning spectacle's two weeks worth of competition, hoping to catch a glimpse of some of the fabled combatants which will be playing clay court tennis this year.

The king of clay, for example, is Rafael Nadal. He originally etched his name into the history of the French Open after matching the tennis record for the legendary player Bjorn Borg as well as Suzanne Lenglen, who was slated as the 1920s French Open Heroine. Unfortunately, Justine Henin was not present to defend her title because she had already retired from professional tennis by May 2008. Ana Ivanovic managed to claim the 2008 single's title for women for the first time, and now she will be going up to the plate again at Roland Garros to see if she can defend her title at the 2009 French Open.

The French Open has really set the standard through the years for the resolve and the steel behind the absolute best in the tennis game. The Roland Garros Stadium is a venue that is more than apt, as it has been named after a fighter pilot in World War I that gave his life for his King and Country. His bravery is still celebrated and remembered every year on these challenging and dusty red clay tennis courts.

Roger Federer has admitted that he believes the clay courts in Paris are his nemesis, and he is not the only one. Numerous other players, including Pete Sampras, Maria Sharapova, Jimmy Connors and Martina Hingis all agree that the clay is challenging to the point of being absolutely detested. However, there are also a number of athletes that thrive on Europe's hard clay surfaces, including Chrissie Evert, Monica Seles, Carlos Moya and Bjorn Borg just to name a few.

The 2009 French Open is definitely going to be one of the greatest sports spectacles of the year, as it is already shaping up to be absolutely magical.
