The top seeded player Gael Monfils has managed to end a four year drought in titles by claiming a 7 - 6 (1), 3 - 6, 6 - 2 win against Philipp Kohlschreiber from Germany during the Open de Moselle which occurred this past Sunday.

Gael Monfils managed to serve a total of 14 aces and managed to break the world no. 23 Kohlschreiber two separate times during the final set before managing to close the match out in only two hours and thirteen minutes this past Sunday. The Frenchman had actually been the winner of their most recent encounter together which occurred last year in Vienna.
Gael Monfils did manage to reach the fourth round of the US open this year, and he managed to win his second ATP title of his career following a victory in Sopot in Poland which occurred back in the year 2005.
Kohlschreiber, who is most likely going to be meeting up with Gael Monfils again when France goes up against Germany during next year, managed to save three set points during the first set so that he could force a tiebreaker. Unfortunately, Gael Monfils was the one that concluded the tiebreaker, having made an outstanding drop shot. Germany and France are slated to go head to head up against one another during the first round of next year's Davis Cup World Group tournament.
Kohlschreiber managed to break Gael Monfils during the sixth game during the second set, leveling things up with an ace.
But this Frenchman eventually broke the serve of his opponent two separate times, allowing him to approve to 2 and 6 in the ATP finals.
Gael Monfils said that for a long time, people were talking about his lost finals, but now it seems that he has finally broken the curse and the curse is finally over. He is happy with the victory and the fact that he has finally managed to win, and on top of that, he is happy to say that the win happened in France.
Gael Monfils is ranked thirteen in the world, and he added that he is not going to be satisfied until he manages to win the French Open, which is his ultimate goal right now.
The last French player to win at the French Open was a fellow by the name of Yannick Noah, who won back in the year 1983. It is probably definitely time for a Frenchman to win on their own soil, and Gael Monfils really seems to have the drive to make this happen as well.
