This is another installment of tennis tips that will improve all aspects of your game. Armed with the right tennis playing tips, you really can improve all aspects of game play from serves to returns and back again.
1 - When Hitting Forehand, Lay Wrist Back
Where the ball is going to go when you hit it is going to depend more on which way your racquet is facing than on any other unique feature of your swing. You are more than capable of controlling the direction that the racquet faces simply by making ever so slight adjustments at the joint in your wrist.
You need to fix your wrist in a laid back position, which means that the back of your hand should be at an angle to your forearm rather than in line with it. As you begin your swing, you should be laying your wrist back as much as is possible in order to make your racquet face the intended target. You should keep it this way throughout the entire contact area and then you are going to be much more likely to hit in the direction of the target in comparison to when you are using a wristy swing.
While you are keeping your wrist in this laid back position during the forward swing, you should then move your racket toward the target along a line. It should be moved along the intended line of flight as it passes through the hitting area. When you do this, what you can actually do is lengthen your area for hitting and not end up having to time your swing as precisely as usual, ad you can still meet the ball at a number of several different points along this line while still hitting it with a reasonable amount of accuracy. If your racket is traveling in an arc on the other hand and is barely moving along the ball's line, then it is only going to be in the proper position for a mere moment. At every other instant along the line it is going to be angled either to the right or to the left of the ideal line. You are then only going to be able to hit the ball at that one precise spot in order to make it accurate.
2 - Develop a Feeling for the Laid Back Wrist
A slightly laid back wrist will permit you to mis-time your swing just slightly while still hitting it with a decent amount of accuracy at the same time. In order to develop this feeling, you need to stand in the hitting position along the side of the net, and you need to press the face of your racquet against the net. You should bend your wrist back so that you are keeping both the handle of the racquet and the face of the racquet completely parallel to the net.
