Murray Injured, Novak Djokovic Takes No. 3

Andy MurrayAndy Murray has withdrawn out of tournaments including the upcoming Shanghai Masters tournament as a result of an injured wrist. He is missing the event as a result of an ongoing injury to his wrist. This news is coming following the decision by Roger Federer to miss the same event as a result of fatigue, though we know that he has a family to take care of and brand new baby twins to care for.

The wrist injury that Andy Murray has sustained has forced him to bow out of the Shanghai Masters tournament which is slated to be held this upcoming week. The 22 year old player recently aggravated the problem during the Davis Cup in Great Britain which had him attempting to beat out Poland during last month.

Murray wrote a letter to the organizers of the tournament where he apologized quite insistently about his absence, hoping that nobody would be inconvenienced by his decision. He specifically stated that the situation at hand is beyond his control, and he wanted to be able to participate in the tournament but that he would be unable to do so.

Andy Murray also posted a statement on his website revealing that the decision was arrived at after he received some medical advice, and he has already penciled in an ideal return date. Murray has decided that he wants to recover quickly enough that he can return to the sport in time for the Valencia Open in three weeks' time.

The injury that Murray sustained is just another blow in what has been a truly frustrating year for the player. His last ATP appearance managed to involve a U.S. open defeat against Marin Cillic. His decision is now the second setback that is hitting the Shanghai event following the decision by Roger Federer, World no. 2 to withdraw. He cited fatigue as the reason behind his decision to pull out but the real reason is anybody's guess.

Now the world No 2 player, Rafael Nadal is the highest ranking player for the tournament's inaugural edition of this tournament, which is an ATP Masters 1000 tennis event.

Novak Djokovic will take over the world No.3 rank from Andy Murray after his win in the China Open yesterday in Beijing. In the venue that the 22-year-old Serbian won the bronze in the Olympic Games last year, he defeated Marin Cilic of Croatia 6 - 2 7 - 6.

And in the inaugural of the Shangai Masters coming up this week, he will be lining up as one of the favorites as he won the Masters Cup 12 months ago in Shanghai. It's anybody's guess what the Shanghai Masters is going to be like, especially considering those that have stepped out of the tournament just before it's begun.
