Patrick McEnroe, Roger Federer, Stanislas Wawrinka

Patrick McEnroe, captain of the United States Davis Cup team may not be able to field his B team in the first round meeting to be held in Switzerland. With the chance for Roger Federer stepping into the arena March 6 through March 8. Federer is expressing interest thanks to Stanislas Wawrinka, 23 years of age, who has been hovering around the top ten positions for quite a while now at this point. Facing the two Swiss tennis players may be a challenge that McEnroe will have to use his best players to have a chance to break through the duo.

The teams will not be determined until ten days before the competition is set to begin. Despite this fact, Federer seems determined to work with Stanislas Wawrinka, and it seems like he has been determined ever since he became a really solid player in the league. Federer, even given the extent of this reputation, would have difficulty in winning the Davis Cup. Given today's lineup it would be neigh impossible. However, combined with the skill of Stanislas Wawrinka, the two could do some truly major damage in upcoming play. Both won the gold medal in the Olympics, showing just how formidable they are in both singles matches and doubles matches alike.

The United States is currently leading the world in Davis Cup wins with a total of 32 match wins. Federer has not actually participated in the Davis Cup since the 2004 tournament. His Davis Cup record is 35 to 11, with a total of 25 singles wins. Stanislas Wawrinka is a Swiss born tennis player who started to play tennis on a full time basis from the age of 15. By 17 he had turned pro and in the Davis cup, he has a 9 - 8 overall record, with 8 singles wins overall. Over their entire careers, Stanislas Wawrinka has a 105 - 91 record and Federer boasts a 617 - 149 record. The first round of the Davis Cup will be held in Birmingham Alabama, where the United States will face off against Switzerland. For the United States, Andy Roddick will be the featured player. Roddick has a 459 - 148 record of play so far, with a 29 - 11 record within the Davis Cup alone.
