Recap US Open Day 13 & 14

Rafael NadalRafael Nadal is going up against Juan Martin del Potro this Sunday. Playing against Juan Martin del Potro is sort of like swimming up the stream because no matter how quickly you're paddling, there is always a feeling of certain inevitability that is going in the opposite direction, and this is exactly how Juan Martin del Potro managed to come back from a seat as well as a breakdown in the quarterfinals against Marin Cilic. He stuck to his game plan and he ended up getting the momentum that he needed for a win.

If anyone is going to be able to defeat Juan Martin del Potro at his own games, it is definitely Rafael Nadal, who is playing extremely well right now to the point where we can't remember when we last saw such great form for him. He demolished Fernando Gonzales after two rain delayed sets of tennis, reaching his second consecutive win in the United States Open semi finals so far.

Nadal's game definitely has never looked better when it comes to hardcourts even though he has seemed uneasy or uncomfortable on this surface before. After he dropped a set to Gael Monfils, he managed to refocus himself and took 3 set wins in quite a routine fashion.

The big question surrounding Nadal right now is his injury - He aggravated his abdominal strain, is it going to impact his game?

Roger Federer is going up against Novak Djokovic. After taking two wins against Robin Soderling, Federer looked like he could possibly be invincible. Anywhere that Soderling seemed to put the ball, Federer was right there and his forehand was absolutely untouchable. Although his backhand is usually vulnerable, it was significantly more solid.

Then something changed and Federer actually seemed beatable for a while, allowing Soderling to claim a set and then the fourth was forced into a tie breaker.

Which of these Federers is going to show up in play against Djokovic? Are we going to see the invincible Federer that cannot be weighed down or stopped in any sense, or are we going to see a slightly weaker Federer, one that is at least slightly touchable?

Djokovic has already beaten Federer two times this year, and both of those times were during the spring season when Federer was not playing at his best level of tennis. Federer took wins in straight sets in the final in Cincinnati this last month - What does that say about who we are going to see on the courts this week?

It is anyone's guess how this one is going to turn out - But a lot of people are rooting for Federer, especially the one we saw in the first sets against Soderling.
