Sam Querrey Manages to Clinch Olympus Tennis US Open Title

Sam QuerreySam Querrey managed to clinch the men's title for the 2009 Tennis Olympus Tennis US Open with a 7 to 5, 6 to 3 round for a 16 defeat over Bjorn Phau while playing the final series event at Pilot Pen Tennis in New Haven. This was the final season series event. With this victory, Querrey has managed to tie against Andy Murray for the Olympus Bonus Challenge standings for men's tennis, but he is officially winning the entire series overall by virtue of a tie breaker, which was the greatest number of matches won in the series in the current year. The third place winner behind Andy Murray was Juan Martin del Potro.

Ever since the Olympus Tennis US Open Tennis Series originally began in the year 2004, every single series winner has either been, or gone on to be the No.1 in the entire world rankings. Now Querrey is going to go on in order to compete for the biggest ever payout in the history of tennis during the 2009 US Open tournament, where the payout is $2.6 million - with $1.6 million dollars going to the winner of the US Open, and there is a $1 million dollar bonus for anyone that wins both the US Open as well as the Olympus Tennis US Open Series as well.

On the women's wide of things, the lead in the US Open Series Bonus by Olympus is currently Elena Dementieva. She is winning in the women's standings. Keep in mind that Flavia Pennetta may still be capable of capturing the overall title for the series, if she should happen to score a win in the Pilot Pen event being held at New Haven. Second or third place may end up going to Marion Bartoli and Jelena Jankovic if they end up hanging on to their current standings through the tournament.

Querrey and whoever ends up winning the women's side of the Olympus Tennis US Open are going to compete for the $1 million dollar bonus prize money during the 2009 US Open tournament. The second place and third place finishing players are going to compete in order to win $500,000 and $250,000 for second place and third place respectively.

Rafael Nadal managed to win the Olympus Tennis US Open Series title for men in 2008, and Dinara Safina took the women's title that year. In 2007, the largest paycheck in the history of tennis was collected by Roger Federer at $2.4 million because he won both the US Open tournament and the Olympus Open series as well. Both titles were also claimed by Kim Clijsters in 2005, allowing her to win $2.2 million dollars, which was the largest purse in the history of women's sports.
