The former World No. 1 tennis player Maria Sharapova plans to be 100 percent healthy by the upcoming tennis season, and assures fans that she will be poised to defend her Australian Open title as soon as January rolls around. According to Maria Sharapova's agent, Max Eisenbud, Sharapova has a set timeline for her recovery, and her recovery is going as planned. The Russian tennis star is slated to be hitting the court again on January 7, which will mark her first match back. This will be an exhibition match in Hong Kong.
It is believed that by entering back into the tennis season on January 7, Maria Sharapova will be able to keep herself in good shape so that she can slip right into the first grand slam of the year, which will begin on January 19 in Melbourne Australia. The Melbourne, Australia grand slam on January 19 is an important one for Maria, as it will involve depending her Australian Open title, and possibly even regaining her role as the World No. 1 tennis player. Sharapova previously held the World No. 1 ranking, but lost it when she had to bow out of the 2008 season early because of a shoulder injury.
Sharapova has been shelved for nearly five months now, after having torn her rotator cuff in a much earlier tournament match. She continued to play with the injured shoulder between April and July, unaware of the level of damage that had been done. It was an MRI scan that finally indicated that the injury was more than met the eye, and when it became apparent that Sharapova would be unable to heal while touring, she bowed out of numerous tournaments including the Beijing Olympics in China, and the U.S. Open. After bowing out from a number of tournaments because of the stress of the injury, Sharapova finally designed to bench herself for the remainder of the 2008 year.
The injury that benched Maria Sharapova forced her to slip in the World Tennis Association's standings, so she ended the season as the World No. 9 tennis player, rather than the World No. 1 that she represented before her injury. On the tour this season she did manage to win a total of three titles, the last of which came on April 13 in Florida. She finished with a 32 - 4 record, and earned almost $2 million dollars despite a disappointing finish to the season.
Before her romp in the Australian Open where she gained the title that she intends to maintain, Sharapova also took wins in the United States Open in 2006, and the Wimbledon tournament in 2004. Fans of Sharapova are prepared to cheer her through a productive season, as Maria seems ready and willing to jump right back into tournament play following several months of rest and recovery.

1 - This is an important one: Adapt your shots and your tactics according to your conditions.
Is it windy, sunny or hot? Use the conditions to your advantage by adapting your game to them. Other considerations that you should make and adapt to are how you are currently feeling, and how well your equipment is performing at the time. By adapting to your conditions, you are significantly improving your game, which is one of the best tennis tips and tricks of all.
2 - Another great consideration when it comes to tennis tips and tricks is to get used to your opponent's play early on in the match.
Nobody plays the same in their warm up as they do during the match, so the real adapting will begin when the match begins rather than before. Watch the ball well at first and get a feel for what is happening. Gradually adapt accordingly, you have plenty of time.
3 - If you want to play a powerful game, you need to have a powerful serve and a powerful return.
If your serve and return are weak, you will be on the defensive throughout the entire match. Don't blast your best serves at full power when the match has just begun. Begin at about 75% of your capabilities and gradually increase your capabilities to find your comfort zone and to win the match.
4 - Find your comfort zone!
Especially when it comes to ground strokes, get into your groove as soon as possible, beginning with long cross courts at 2 to 5 feet over the net, then aim five feet from both sides and baseline in order to improve your ground strokes, forehands and backhands.
5 - Become aware of your opponent's weaknesses.
The next step is to determine what shots you can and cannot reasonably play accordingly. If your opponent moves very slowly when coming toward the net for example, is your drop shot a reliable enough shot that you can properly utilize it? Master moves before you change up your game too much. Adapting your game is vital, but only if you stay within your limits.
6 - One of the most important tennis tips and tricks is never to fall into a mind trap.
There are numerous mind traps that may ruin your game, such as "If I do not take this opportunity, I will not get another", and "I do not want to make it a double fault now". If you find yourself falling into a mind trap, change up your thinking and play your match point decisively and with as much courage that you can muster.

World No. 1 tennis player Rafael Nadal has been injured, and it is not sure right now whether or not he will be able to recover in time to return to the game for the Davis Cup final in Spain. Being held in Argentina, the Davis Cup would be a big tournament for Rafael Nadal to play in, especially as he seeks to uphold his World No. 1 title which he just recently claimed from his long time tennis rival, Roger Federer. Unfortunately, his uncle who is also his trainer just recently spoke out about his injuries and it is apparently doubtful that he will be recovered enough by the end of this month to handle the tournament.
Nadal is suffering from tendonitis in his right knee. Because of the unexpected injury, he was forced to pull out of the Masters Cup in Shanghai which just began on Sunday and was meant to be the season ender for him. He was also forced to retire out of the Paris Masters quarter final tournament where he was playing against Nikolay Davydenko just last month.
According to Toni Nadal, Rafael Nadal's trainer and uncle, Rafael's inclusion into the Davis team is going to be difficult because the tests have not been going very well. He spoke to the Marca newspaper ahead of the November 21 through 23 tie in Mar del Plata and indicated that while Rafael is healing, he is not healing at the pace that is required for him to come back this season, and the idea of him coming back in time for the Spain Davis Cup is slim to none at this point. According to Toni Nadal, there are very few options available to Rafael right now because he is feeling pain on the court and is having difficulty making it through the tournament matches.
According to a statement that was recently released on Rafael Nadal's official website, the Mallorcan would be traveling to Barcelona on Monday in order to undergo some more tests. According to Rafael, his body needs to be able to do its work and regenerate on its own time according to doctors, so he seems keen on sitting out a few tournaments if it means coming back better than ever when the tendonitis has subsided. Right now Nadal is attributing his tendonitis injury on what he views to be an overloaded ATP tennis calendar. He is a recent French Open and Wimbledon champion and has had an incredible year, becoming the World No. 1 in August of this year and finally beating out his long time tennis rival in the process. Rafael's primary hope right now as he recovers from his injury is that he is able to return to the courts before he loses his World No. 1 title.

Tragedy struck the lives of the Williams sisters in 2003, when their oldest sister, who did not play tennis professionally, was gunned down outside of the place where the girls played tennis. This event hit the family hard, and it has been difficult for them to recover from the shock. One of the most important steps of becoming a good tennis player is practicing your drills, over and over again, until it becomes second nature. There are numerous methods that are promoted for different drills, and dozens of books on the subject. We were ready for more of the same old, same old when we picked this book up by Tina Hoskins, but ended up being pleasantly surprised at the quality of the information contained in it.
The first part of the book is largely based around the different techniques that you need to learn and the different swings that are necessary in competitive play. We found the author very skilled at passing along sometimes complicated information in a very easy to read format. Even grips are covered as well as lobs, overhands and other swings that will come in handy, especially if you do play competitively.
The second part of the book covers different tactics that you can use in many different situations, breaking them all down. Once again, even complicated information is made easier. We especially enjoyed the section on defensive play and found that it was very beneficial in our game. Section three gets more into actually playing the game against an opponent and covers the different strategies that you can use to win.
We also got quite a lot out of the fourth section, which covers different exercises that you can do all year long to stay in shape as well as some great advice and techniques for endurance training – a key if you want to be able to last in this sport. The book wraps up with some great advice for competitive group play and offers some final insights into how to improve your overall game.
This book is primarily for beginners and junior players, but even advanced players can benefit from many of the drills. This is an ideal book to give a kid that is just getting started in the sport, or for someone that is getting back into tennis after being away from the sport for a few years. Many of the drills are basic, but there is sound technique in them that will take a player far into the game. We highly recommend the book to anyone that wants to be able to play tennis better and get more consistent results.
Overall, there is a lot of quality information in this book, and it’s well worth the cover price. When you consider what you would have to pay a pro for lessons like these, it’s very economical indeed. In fact, in many ways, a book on drills has an advantage over a teacher, since you can take this with you and practice anywhere and simply refer back to the book if you have a question or you get stuck. Easily one of the best books we’ve read on tennis drills and one that we would recommend to any player seeking to improve.

Although many only look at Anna Kournikova’s beauty, citing the fact that she’s never really done much in the sport of tennis, she is an accomplished player that has a remarkable attitude about the game and an innate talent.
