The Just Tennis Strung Head Liquid Metal LM Tennis Racquet is strong using head synthetic guy and is a MidPlus racquet with 4 ¼ to 5/8 oversize grips. This is a beautiful, famous racquet that Andrei Agassi used when he won his most recent United States Open Tennis tournament. It is intended for players that have full swings, and it is excellent for all kinds of court play. It has more power than what would normally be expected from an Agassi racquet. It has a head light balance and a low swing weight, meaning that it is a highly mobile tennis racquet that excels at half swing shots that are used primarily for net play and for serve returns.

When it comes to a tennis racquet that Andrei Agassi used, one might expect a low power, heavier racquet because Agassi brings his own power to the court. However, you will find that this particular racquet does have quite a bit of power to it, boosting the capabilities of your swing by putting power behind even the lightest swings, making it ideal for all kinds of play, including net play and when returning serves.

This is a highly mobile and fast swinging tennis racquet, making it ideal for many types of tennis players. The frame is constructed with sections of Liquid Metal, a really dense material, which is located in four different points around the racquet's head. This racquet also utilizes something called Intellifibers in its throat, which allows it to further reduce the amount of vibration that it experiences. The Mid Plus version of this racquet has a 98 head, and weighs 11.1 oz. This particular racquet is 27 inches long both in the Mid Plus and Oversize versions. The Mid Plus is 3 pts light, and the Oversize is 4 pts light. The swing weight of the Mid Plus is 10.0 and the swing weight of the Oversize is 9.9. The Oversize has a head of 107, and weighs .1 oz more at 11.2 oz when strung.

The Mid Plus and the Oversize tend to play quite similarly in comparison to one another. You may find that the Mid Plus has a slightly heavier feel to it, while the Oversize has a little bit more power. The one downside to this particular book is the fact that it does not go into detail about nutrition, but rather focuses completely on the conditioning through physical exercise. It does talk about water consumption and sodium. If you are already in decent shape and have the nutrition part of your conditioning plan figured out, then this is definitely the book for you, because it will allow you to take your conditioning plan a step further with fool proof conditioning instruction. If you are really into tennis and your priority is to improve your health and conditioning for improved game play, then this DVD and book combination is an ideal way to get started. Hopefully the next incarnation of this title will include even more in depth information including nutrition and assistance for the weekend player as well as the serious player.

Athlete Profiles: Pete Sampras

Pete Sampras was born in 1971 and grew up in the Washington DC area of the United States. He is considered to be one of the most gifted male players in the sport and has one numerous titles, medals and cups throughout his long and illustrious career. Although he is now retired, he remains to this date one of the winningest tennis players in the world.

He discovered tennis early on, but it wasn’t until he hit the age of seven, when his family moved to California that he began to take it seriously. He was considered by many to be a prodigy in the game and from the first time he picked up a racket, it was clear that he was destined for greatness.

At the tender age of 16, Sampras turned pro and by 1990 he was beating fan favorite Andre Agassi. It was at this match that he even beat the illustrious John McEnroe, a feat that not many other players have ever managed to accomplish. Although his career had its ups and downs, Sampras remained a strong player through it all.

What is he doing now?

Venus Williams Changes Focus

The Wimbledon championship's top female champion Venus Williams has withdrawn from the upcoming Wimbledon open in order to prepare for the another match that is coming up. The match in question is the $ 4.5 millions Sony Ericsson Championships, and this is the season ender for the WTA Tour that will feature the top eight players in the entire world. The championship this year marks the first time that the prize money is equal between men's and women's tennis. Held in the Muslim sheikdom of Qatar, the tennis player will not focus on her support of female athletes but rather she will be focusing instead on winning matches for her own self instead. All of the attending players are going to be solely focused on playing their absolute best, and not upon the issues surrounding their host.

It was back in 2006 that Williams volunteered for the promotion of gender equality and female empowerment for the WTA. Money that the program received went towards mentoring, scholarship, and fellowship opportunities. She was supported by Billie Jean King. In Qatar, women have fewer chances than men to play sports. Qatar even sent an all male Olympic team, along with Saudi Arabia. Several Arab nations however, did send female athletes where they were formerly excluded.

Williams assured that the tennis players are there to play tennis and that's it, who felt that there were not in a place to tell another country how to do things. Instead, Williams and Dinara Safina insist rather on being good role models. Williams younger sister Serena will also compete in Qatar. The two sisters have 16 Grand Slam titles behind them, and are Jehovah's witnesses. This precludes them from voting. Serena also noted the new prominent place for women in elections, though did not mention Clinton or Palin. Both hope to see a growth of women's rights around the globe.

Both sisters are now facing a dreadful situation; since both are going to be participating in the championship, they will have to face off against one another, and unfortunately only one of them can emerge as the winner. Serena has already felt the sting in the prior Wimbledon match where she lost to her sister in the very final match. Venus had to be sure to keep here celebrations muted this time around. This year, both sisters have won grand slam titles, and are coming close to the ends of their respective careers. Despite some obvious distractions, Serena has dedicated herself more than ever to the game and will provide a true, much needed challenge for her sister. However, the sisters will have to face off against a variety of other rivals as well, including two Serbians, the world number one Jelena Jankovic, and Ana Ivanovic, winner of the French Open championship.

Shortly after graduating high school, Evert went pro and instantly made a name for herself. In fact, her name was so popular that a racehorse was named in her honor. The horse went on to win numerous races and accolades, much like Chris. Throughout her storied career, Evert remained a public fixture and her romances with other tennis players and celebrities were the talk of the world. Frequently a fixture on magazines, Evert also became the first and only woman tennis player to host the popular comedy show Saturday Night Live.

Most recently, Evert married the famous golfer Greg Norman, following her failed marriage to Andy Mill, with whom she had three children. Her path to stardom and the resulting fame gave women’s tennis a much needed boost, and it is thanks to her efforts that we have so many star women players on the circuit today. She may have been overly profiled and hounded by the media, but all of her hard work paid off by paving the way for today’s women to dominate the sport and get the recognition they deserve.

Book Review: Tennis for Dummies By Patrick McEnroe and Peter Bodo with a forward by John McEnroe

The Dummies series has quite a following and these books specialize in breaking down everything complex about a subject until everyone can easily understand it. This latest Dummies book focuses on tennis and was written by John McEnroe’s son, and also features a forward from this well known player. This is the kind of teaching that many of us wish we had when we were first starting out and although at times it can be a bit simplistic, there is much to be learned here.

The first portion of the book goes into the absolute basics of the game, how scoring works and what to expect. This portion is actually useful for those that just like to watch tennis, but they’re not quite sure what exactly is going on. Once you get past the first section, you get into more actual tips and lessons and that is when it starts to get really good.

We thoroughly enjoyed the second part, which gets into learning the right techniques from the start and how to get the basics under control. After that, the third section will help you take the skills that you’ve already learned and walks you through how to apply them step by step. This kind of instruction is very valuable and makes the book a very useful training tool.

The fourth section is intended for those that are truly passionate about not only playing tennis but following the sport. It gets a little heady in there at times, but once again, the information is all very good. The book wraps up with some great tips and some top ten lists of the world’s greatest players. A bit on the filler side, but once again, those who truly love tennis will appreciate these final additions at the end of the book.

Don’t let the title fool you, there is still good stuff in this book for professional and advanced tennis players. It never hurts to keep on top of your game and to read all that you can about the sport. We learned quite a few things by reading this book and getting a different insight on something is always useful. It may not be the best instructional tennis book out there, but it does come pretty close.

The intended audience for the book is the absolute beginner and it does offer a strong foundation that will help these players get started on the right foot. We highly recommend the book to new players and to kids that are just getting started. Many of these lessons would cost quite a bit more if you got them in person from a pro, and while it is important to learn tennis with a coach, this book can pick up the slack and offer some interesting new techniques and drills that can be incorporated into your existing lessons. It’s a solid read that’s engaging and informative.

5 Tips to Prevent Tennis Elbow

Although tennis may not be a full contact sport, it is still possible to get injured. One of the most common injuries that tennis players face is called tennis elbow. This is a repetitive strain injury that can be incredibly painful. The good news is that you can prevent it, or at the very least, lessen the chances of it occurring. Here are some tips to help you avoid this painful injury.

1. Use the right equipment.

One of the main reasons that tennis elbow can occur can be traced to using the wrong racket. It is important to get professionally fitted with a racket to ensure that it is the proper size for you. Most sporting goods stores will be able to help you pick a racket that has the right size and the right grip. If you are playing with a racket that is too heavy for you, it is all too easy to stress your elbow joint and end up with tennis elbow.

2. Stretch beforehand.

Although tennis elbow is a repetitive injury, you can reduce the chances of having it occur by taking the time to warm up your joints properly. Learn the right exercises to do before you play and remember not to play too long. Several hours of tennis will hurt even the best players and can put too much stress on your joints. It is better to keep your sessions shorter than risk having to deal with this injury.

3. Wear a brace.

If you already have a problem with tennis elbow, or if you will be playing for extended periods of time, wearing a brace can reduce the amount of stress on that joint. You may want to have your doctor prescribe a specific brace and get one that is properly fitted to make sure that it will work the way it was intended.

4. Practice using good form.

Tennis elbow can be exacerbated by improper form. If you are new to the sport, it is important to get at least one lesson from a pro to start off with, and then to follow up with one from time to time to make sure that you are using the right form. This can greatly reduce your risk of becoming injured.

5. Play less.

Sadly, for many players, the only way to prevent tennis elbow from flaring up is to limit how often they play the game. This is usually the case for those with severe cases, or for those that have been playing tennis for many years. In this case, playing less may be your only option.

While tennis elbow is common among professional players, there are ways that it can be prevented. If you are noticing increasing pain in your elbow joint, it is best to contact your doctor and schedule a checkup. They will be able to make further recommendations that will help you stay pain free and help you get back into the game again.

One of the biggest problems that tennis players face is being able to function in bright sunlight, and see a ball that is hurtling at them from many different directions. If you have difficulty picking up a ball in sunlight, or you just have found that it’s too bright outside and it’s interfering with your game, a pair of sunglasses may be just the ticket. However, traditional sunglasses are not typically suited to tennis playing and may in fact make the problem worse.

To answer this problem, many manufacturers are moving towards making specific tennis sunglasses. These are designed to answer the most common complaints tennis players have about being able to see the ball and still function. There are numerous different designs that are currently on the market, and while many are good, the majority fall short of their promises.

Bolle’s Tennis Vigilante sunglasses were a pleasant revelation when we gave them a try. Unlike many tennis sunglasses, they are easy to wear, and do not slip off, even if you are sweating heavily. The frames are lightweight, and the overall look is very sleek and sharp. The lenses are polarized, and above all, it is the lenses that make these sunglasses worth every penny.

When you put them on, you immediately notice that the glare is reduced and clarity is improved. Although there is no correction in the lenses, they do actually make things crisper through the way that the lenses are made and colored. There is actually quite a big difference when you put them on and then take them back off. The quality was very high and we found that you really could see the ball better, even in fast competitive play. Low light wasn’t a problem for these glasses, either. They did just as well at twilight as they did at noon – a feat that many other glasses simply can’t match.

These are a great gift for tennis players that have issues with seeing the ball and picking it up with glare, or for those that are constantly playing tennis in a variety of different conditions. As the sun’s UV rays become more intense, it’s never been more important to protect your eyes. This particularly true since research has shown that extended sunlight exposure on unprotected eyes could lead to future problems such as macular degeneration.

Our one main issue with the sunglasses is that they really only come in one size. For junior players, women or those with smaller heads, they may not fit correctly. It would be nice to see this line come out in a variety of different sizes so that all players could benefit from them. All of that aside, these are quality tennis sunglasses and they are more than worth the price. We found that they really did work, and many other people have reported similar results. If you’re looking for a solid pair of sunglasses that can get the job done, these are about the best on the market.
