Tennis Elbow 101

If you are dealing with tennis elbow, knowing how to treat it or what to do about it is vital. Here is a look at what you can do when you are dealing with tennis elbow.
If you want to alleviate a shoulder, elbow or wrist that is temporarily sore as a result of overplaying, what you may want to attempt is to modify your racquet so that it better absorbs the vibrations of the hits. You can do this through the following methods:
You can string your racket toward the lower end of the spectrum of the recommended tension range for your particular racquet. Looser string faces are generally capable of absorbing more of the impact from the ball. Looser faces are also capable of adding depth to each of your shots without requiring you to make the same full powered swing in the process.
Try using a thicker string: as thicker string densities tend to help absorb the shot better to take some of the stress off your arm.
Another thing that you may want to attempt doing is to try adding lead tape to your racquet in order to increase its mass overall. By adding weight to your racquet you will be helping to reduce the amount of shock that is transmitted to the hand and the arm through the racquet.
Now you should check with your pro shop in order to ensure that the grip size that you are using is the right grip size for your particular hand size. It may be that you are going to need to increase your handle size or decrease your handle size in order to decrease the vibration that your hand and arm are experiencing. The correct grip size on your tennis racquet can really mean a lot when it comes to eliminating the issues you are dealing with pertaining to tennis elbow.
You may also want to consider vibration dampeners, but keep this in mind when doing so: Vibration dampeners do not generally have an effect on the amount of vibration that is experienced by the elbow. What they really do tend to do, on the other hand, is to have an effect on how the racquet sounds and how it feels instead. While you may consider this option, it should be your absolute last resort because there are plenty of other ways for you to reduce the vibrations that your arm experiences during play.
If you are working with a computer frequently, here is another tip: You should be operating the computer's mouse with the hand that you are not using to play tennis with. If you are a right handed tennis player, then you should be using your left hand to work the mouse on your computer. If you are a left handed tennis player then you should be using your right hand to work the mouse on your computer.
