Ace - This is a serve that the opponent is incapable of returning, to serve an ace.
Ad - This is a shortened version of Advantage.
Advantage - The player that scores the very first point after deuce is said to have had the advantage, because winning the next point is going to mean winning the game.
Advantage Court - This is the left service court, which is where the receiver is taking service when either of the players has the advantage.
All - All is used in scoring in order to indicate that there is a tie.
Approach Shot - This is a shot that is hit both hard and deep so that the player can take the net.
Backboard - This is a wall that is used for the purpose of practice. It often has a line marked on it to indicate where the net would be.
Back Court - This is the area of the court between the baseline and the service line.
Backhand - This is a shot that is hit from the "wrong side" of the player's body, or in other words the side that is away from the racket. In a right handed player, a backhand is a shot from the left side of the player.
Backswing - This is backward rotation of the ball.
Ball Person - This is someone that is responsible for retrieving balls to make sure that the court is kept clear during the match.
Baseline - This is a line at the very end of the court that runs parallel to the net, marking the lengthwise boundary of the area of play.
Block - This means returning the ball by way of holding the racket in a stationary manner rather than by swinging it.
Break - This means to win the game in the receiver position.
Break Point - This is a point that is going to create a service break in the event that it is won by the receiving player.
Center Court - This is the main court at the tennis area, where championship matches and other serious matches are typically played.
Center Mark - This is a 2" wide and 14" long line marking the baseline at its mid point.
Chip - This is a soft shot that is hit using backspin to allow it to go just over the net.
Clean Winner - This is a shot that the opponent cannot reach.
Closed Grip - This is a grip where the face of the racquet is tilted downward in the direction of the court.
Closed Racquet - this is a racquet that is being held using a closed grip.
Cut - this relates to hitting the ball using a short and downward slicing sort of motion, adding sideways spin as well as some backspin to the ball.
