rafaelnadalPass - This means hitting a shot that goes beyond the opponent, typically when that opponent is either at or close to the net.

Passing Shot - This is a shot that goes past the opponent in the court.

Penalty Point - This is another word for point penalty.

Pickup Shot - This is another name for hitting a half volley shot.

Placement - This refers to a shot that was hit into an area where it cannot be reached by the opponent.

Poach - In doubles, this means to hit a ball, typically with a volley, when it normally would have been played by your partner.

Point - This is the basic unit for scoring in tennis. Points are numbered as fifteen, then thirty, then forty, and then game. One player will serve throughout the entire game. The first player that wins four points has won the game, as long as the margin of victory has been at least two points.

Point Penalty - This is a penalty that costs a player one of their points in the current game. The umpire can assess these point penalties for a number of different reasons including unsportsmanlike conduct like abuse of an official, delaying a game or using obscenity.

Puddler - This is a player that hits a lot of drop shots and chip shots.

Punch Volley - This is a volley that is hit with a stroke that is very short and punching.

Put Away - This is the same as a kill.

Racquet - This is the instrument that is used in order to hit the ball in tennis. It has a long and straight handle and a frame in the shape of an oval that is strung up using synthetic material or natural guy. Racquets were made from wood until the 1960s, but now they are made from steel or aluminum materials. The terms racquet and racket are interchangeable.

Rally - This is an extended exchange of numerous shots between two players or two sides.

Ready Position - This is the position that the receiver adopts in anticipation of the upcoming serve.

Receiver - This is the player that receives the service through the game.

Referee - This is the official that is in charge of the overall tournament. The referee is not responsible for officiating at matches, but he or she may be called upon in order to interpret a rule by the umpire.

Retrieve - This means reaching and returning a shot that would normally be difficult for the player to get to.

Retriever - This is a player that tries to wear down his or her opponent by concentrating on defense.

Return - This means hitting an opponent's shot over the net while in play. After the serve, every successful shot in response is known as a return.

Reverse Spin - This is another word for backspin.

Reverse Twist - This is a serve with spin that causes the ball to pounce high and to the right of the receiver.
