Tennis Preview of Stockholm Open

Robin SoderlingThis year the Stockholm Open is going to be led by the two-time finalist and top Swede, Robin Soderling, who just recently broken into the top 10 ATP Rankings for the 2009 South African Airways for the very first time this week.

Soderling, who happened to be a runner up both last year and in 2003, is overall the 17th Swedish player to have ranked in the top ten in the entire history of the rankings for the entire history of the ATP World Tour which is from 1973.

Robin Soderling currently has a career mark of 13 to 6 in Stockholm, and he is currently trying to secure one of the only three remaining positions for the Barclays ATP Finals which is the year ending tournament for the ATP World Tour, and is slated to be held next month in London. The current No. 2 seed right now is German player Tommy Haas, who has advanced into the semi-finals in the year 2004 and the year 2007. Haas, who is 31 years and six months old, is currently the oldest player that is currently playing in the singles draw.

The other seeds of note for this particular tournament are:

  • No. 3 seed - Juan Carlos Ferrero, who hails from Spain
  • No. 4 seed -Juan Monaco, who hails from Argentina
  • No. 5 seed -Andreas Beck, who hails from Germany
  • No. 6 seed -Benjamin Becker, who hails from Germany
  • No. 7 seed -Albert Montanes, who hails from Spain
  • No. 8 seed -Feliciano Lopez, who hails from Spain

Additionally, the Swedish wild card player who is Joachim Johansson is going to be making a second appearance for the year in the ATP World Tour as he is working to take on the Australian player Peter Luczak.
