Tennis Preview: Rogers Cup

federerIn a preview of the Rogers Cup, we find that Federer and Nadal are returning!

Judging by the name on this particular tournament, you may think that the winner for this particular game has already been determined. When you consider the results in the past two slams, you may be even more tempted to hand Roger Federer the title, allowing the pros to battle it out for the silver medal instead.

We have forgotten someone, however. This is someone that is very special and that was heading for all time greatness back in January. The muscular Mallorcan has returned, coming back from an injury that forced him to sit back and watch as Roger Federer worked to climb back into the No. 1 ranking in the world.

Tennis fans are going to be in for a real treat as Nadal and Federer both return to the Rogers Cup tournament in Montreal, their chance to rejoin the US Open Tour. While Andy Roddick may have proved to be more than capable as a final opponent during the Wimbledon, and while he may even have won this particular championship playing in straight sets, even though he is proving to be quite formidable, everyone seems to know that the real rivalry is between Roger Federer and Nadal, and that's all there is to it.

If you assume that Rafa is in good shape, even at a level of 60 percent of his fitness he is probably more than capable of being perceived as one of the top ten fittest athletes in the entire world, then he shouldn't be facing any problems when it comes to negotiating the draw. The draw has been extremely kind to Rafael Nadal, at least right up until he's reached the semi-final stage. Defending this title of his is going to be a completely different beast all together. His path is likely going to take him through Ferrer and Robredo, where a real test is going to be presented when he reaches Juan Martin Del Potro, who is a fast rising star. The irony here is going to be that the man who managed to take him out during Roland Garros is the one that has become injured, which means that Rafael is going to need to wait if he wants to exact revenge. It seems like his biggest interest at the moment, however, is simply to win tournaments so that he can get ready for the US Open prize, which for him is the real prize worth pursuing.

For predictions, the possible semi final lineups are Andy Roddick against Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer up against Andy Murray.

The predicted final is going to be Roger Federer against Andy Roddick. We think it is likely going to be a bit of a wait before fans get to see Federer and Nadal go head to head, because Roddick is likely going to be capable of pulling an upset when playing against Rafael.

The predicted winner for this one is Andy Roddick because he only has to win two sets.
