The US Open Series is Well On Its Way

Alex Bogomolov Jr. - 2009 Indianapolis Tennis ChampionshipsThe Indianapolis Tennis Championships tipped off the six week long US Open Series by Olympus, which comprises ten different events on hard courts throughout North America that finally lead into the final Grand Slam tournament for the season. Along this road to New York there is plenty that is at stake. Although week one has just drawn to a close, there is plenty more excitement where that came from, with five more weeks of tournaments all leading to the big Olympus Grand Slam Tournament for the US Open Tennis Championships.

Week two is slated to be held between July 27 and August 2. The ATP tournament is slated to be held at the LA Tennis Open in Los Angeles, California. The WTA tournament is slated to be held at the Bank of the West Classic in Stanford, California. For the ATP, the defending champion is currently Juan Martin del Potro and for the WTA the defending champion is currently Aleksandra Wozniak.

Week three is slated to be held between August 3 and August 9. The ATP championship is slated to be held at Legg Mason Tennis Classic in Washington. The WTA tournament is slated to be held at the LA Women's Tennis Championships in Los Angeles, California. For the ATP, the defending champion is currently Juan Martin del Potro and for the WTA the defending champion is currently Dinara Safina.

Week four is slated to be held between August 10 and August 16 at the Rogers Masters in Montreal, Canada for the ATP and Western & Southern Financial Group Women's Open, Cincinnati for the WTA. For the ATP, the defending champion is currently Rafael Nadal and for the WTA the defending champion is currently Nadia Petrova.

Week five is slated to be held between August 17 and August 23 at the Western & Southern Financial Group Masters in Cincinnati. For the ATP, the defending champion is currently Andy Murray and for the WTA the defending champion is currently Dinara Safina.

Week six is slated to be held between August 23 and August 29 at the Pilot Pen Tennis Club in New Haven, Connecticut. For the ATP, the defending champion is currently Marin Cilic and for the WTA the defending champion is currently Caroline Wozniacki.

The US Open tournament is slated to be held between August 31 and September 13 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York. The defending champions right now are Roger Federer and Serena Williams.

There is a cool million dollars at stake here. If the winner of this US Open Series championships also manages to win the US Open championship, then he or she will pocket an additional $1 million dollar bonus on top of the $1.6 million dollars that is already being paid to the singles championships for men and women's tennis.
