By the middle of the day on Sunday, the Wimbledon practice courts were already alive with an intense amount of effort. There were dozens of players on the courts during this time wearing casual and colorful clothing that normally would have them booted out of the match since the dress code is predominantly white.
The fourth seed, Elena Dementieva, went through her service motions without even using a racket. Instead, she had an elastic band that was providing resistance training. Agnieszka and Urszula Radwanska exchanged some great ground strokes, just as they likely have been doing since the earliest years of their childhood.
Tomas Berdych, who is slated to face up against Andy Roddick in the fourth round on Monday, generated an effortless level of power. On a court located near to his, Sabine Lisicki rocketed a beautiful two handed backhand down along the line, well out of Darren Cahill's reach, causing him to shout "Beauty!" into the air. Lisicki, who is nineteen years old, did manage to produce quite a number of beauties on Saturday when she went up against Svetlana Kuznetsova, the French Open champion, winning in straight sets against her in the process. Between rallies, Cahill spoke to a reporter, claiming that there were plenty of good story lines taking place in the tournament this year. This is how it typically goes at Wimbledon.
Andy Murray is looking like the favorite to win the upcoming tournament, and if he does manage to take the win, he will be the first British man to win the Wimbledon singles since 1936 with Fred Perry. The Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer championships at the finals last year were definitely a close call, but now hopefully Andy Murray is going to take the title. He is a Scot with title prospects that have never looked as good as they do today. He has matured quite a bit, improving his serve and becoming a truly serious contender in the upcoming tournament.
After winning at the Queen's Club, Murray has dropped a set in his first free matches against the second tier competitor. Murray may actually prove himself capable of moving on to the final round this time around, proving that all the work has been well worthwhile to bring him to this point. Other players like Roddick have certainly paid their dues in the way of Wimbledon tournaments, having lost twice in the final tournament as well as once during the semi finals, all of these losses going to Federer. The bad news is that Federer will be there this year too, and so Roddick's future in the tournament is not looking so great. Berdych is also on a roll, Lleyton Hewitt is playing better than before, and there are plenty of contenders that are going to make the upcoming Wimbledon championship a doozy for all involved parties.
